Let’s face it, sitting is getting a pretty bad rap these days. “It’s the new smoking!” “Sitting will take years off your life!” And, the manner in which many people sit does contribute to a lot of pain, both above and below what we all sit on. Leave it to LisaAnn to figure out how we can use sitting to heal. And these lessons can be used everywhere you do sit … your office. The kitchen. Even an airplane. Or your car.

Sitting. Doing nothing well.

Let’s face it, sitting is getting a pretty bad rap these days. “It’s the new smoking!” “Sitting will take years off your life!” And, the manner in which many people sit does contribute to a lot of pain, both above and below what we all sit on. Let’s make sitting a HEALING tool.

Don’t be a victim to chairs! And being ANTI CHAIR is as silly as it sounds. There are lots of different chairs and you have one butt….so lets learn how YOUR butt can feel good in all of  the chairs! You don’t have to fear couches, car seats and plane rides because your body has a built in “chair” so lets focus on how to make the world of chairs fit you!

The tripod chair is one of my favorites. It has a small learning curve and you can gain instant feel of centering in your hips. This is an easy chair to put in your house and watch TV or work by putting your laptop in a chair and you just let the position of sitting change you without thinking about it.

The amount of time you sit can be of benefit as much as it can be a detriment. The longer you sit in the ideal position the body changes and shifts and relaxes into its natural alignment and all you did was hang out well!

Doing Nothing Well is also easy in Recline is Devine. This is one of my favorites because once learned it can be done in so many places. Airplanes, cars, movie theaters and at your desk. You get to REALLY LEARN TO RELAX! That’s the hardest part of this sitting posture…is letting go!

I think of Spectator Stretch as one of the most important postures to learn, because it’s teaching you how to BEND correctly and since your sitting you don’t tire as you would standing and bending but get to “hang out” in it. Bending well is the most powerful movement the body can do to shift the spine and get the body centered. So in Spectator Stretch you get to rest while gaining the feel of how to bend well.  Once you have sat and relaxed in this posture you will feel extremely grounded and sold in your hips. I can’t put into words how this posture changes the spine and hips, you just have to experience it! The longer you relax into the posture the deeper you will feel the changes.

Crossing your legs can hurt or help you depending on how you do it. Crossing legs is such a social norm that we have adopted because of what I call  “FASHION FITNESS” is the norm. As you regain the feel of how you are born to move the fashion you adopt with your posture will be more defined by YOU  not models and the industries that promote it. Crossing your legs can hurt or help you depending on how you do it.

Enjoy a couple of bonus videos, How To Sit on a Plane and How To Sit in A Car The Balance Posture Recline is Devine that you learned earlier is the foundation to these sitting postures. Have fun!
